2019-2020 KUAN Executive Board Elections

We are now soliciting self-nominations for the 2019-2020 KUAN Executive Board. To be eligible for a position, candidates must:

  • Be current KUAN members who regularly attend KUAN events. Preferably, candidates will have served on a KUAN committee within the last two years.
  • Obtain supervisor approval to ensure their volunteer commitment does not interfere with work responsibilities.
  • Anticipate 3-5 hours of KUAN responsibilities a month - this will vary based on the time of the year but includes participation and attendance at executive board meetings, KUAN events, committee meetings, and work related to position responsibilities.

Please find the Executive Board positions and their descriptions below:

President - Filled

  • Preside at all meetings of membership and the Executive Board.
  • Be responsible for overseeing all of KUAN business.
  • Call meetings of the Executive Board.
  • Approve the calendar of events.
  • Serve as an ex-officio member of all standing and ad hoc committees.
  • Represent the KUAN at other groups as appropriate.
  • Meet regularly with the Undergraduate Studies Liaison(s).

Immediate Past-President – Currently Inactive

  • Collect nominations and prepare ballot for Executive Board positions.
  • Provide advice, support, and historical knowledge to the Executive Board and Chair.
  • Organize and implement the training of new Executive Board members.
  • Solicit volunteers to serve as committee members or in leadership roles with the KUAN.

President-Elect - Filled

  • Perform duties of the President in the absence of the President.
  • Assist the President as requested.
  • Coordinate the KUdos initiative.
  • Maintain the KUAN listserv, email account, and monthly newsletter.
  • Communicate and recruit liaisons from campus units to provide updates/information for the newsletter.

Advising Research Committee Chair - Open

  • Coordinate the efforts of the Research Committee.
  • Select from volunteers or solicited members at least five representatives from at least three academic divisions to serve as committee members.
  • Gauge interest in research and form opportunities to share those interests across the network.

Assessment Committee Chair - Open

  • Coordinate the efforts of the Assessment Committee.
  • Select from volunteers or solicited members at least five representatives from at least three academic divisions to serve as committee members.
  • Collaborate and communicate with the Undergraduate Advising Executive Committee on assessment initiatives.

Cultural Competency Committee Chair - Open

  • Coordinate the efforts of the Cultural Competency Committee.
  • Select from volunteers or solicited members at least five representatives from at least three academic divisions to serve as committee members.
  • Maintain and update Cultural Competency section of the KUAN website.

Networking Committee Chair - Open

  • Coordinate the efforts of the Networking Committee.
  • Select from volunteers or solicited members at least five representatives from at least three academic divisions to serve as committee members.
  • Establish formal and informal networking opportunities for the KUAN throughout the year.

Elected Presidents serve a three-year term to provide support as President Elect, President, and Past President. Standing committee Chairs serve a one-year term.

What does the KUAN executive board do?

The purpose of the KUAN is to foster opportunities for professional growth, personal development, and community building across the KU academic advising community. As such, all members of the Executive Board are responsible for the following:

  • Establishing the calendar of events for the year and attending all KUAN events
  • Organizing professional development opportunities for the KUAN
  • Serving as a steering committee for all KUAN events
  • Maintaining the KUAN website
  • Advising on agenda items for Executive Board meetings
  • Communicating regularly with members through the newsletter and/or listserv
  • Responding to critical issues as they arise and take action when appropriate
