The KU Advising Network is open to all individuals employed at the University of Kansas. This includes, but is not limited to, academic advisors, faculty members, administrators, counselors, and others whose interests and work are related to academic advising. While the KUAN focuses primarily on those who support and advise undergraduate students, the network is open to those who work with other populations including graduate and professional students. Individuals can join as a member of the KUAN by signing up through the online form.
KUAN Executive Board
The KUAN Executive Board engages and communicates with academic advisors and student services professionals from across campus. The board facilitates opportunities that foster professional development, community building, and communication with the ultimate goal of promoting an engaged and active advising community on campus.
The Executive Board consists of the following positions:
- Immediate Past-President,
- Advising Research Committee Chair,
- Cultural Competency Committee Chair,
- Networking Committee Chair, and
- Assessment Committee Chair.
Board members are selected by the KUAN membership through an election process. Standing committee Chairs serve a one-year term. To be eligible for a chair position, individuals must be active KUAN members who are regularly involved in and attending KUAN events or have served on a committee within the last two years. Elected Presidents serve a three-year term – President Elect, President, and Past President. To be eligible for the President Elect position, individuals must have served as a chair on a KUAN committee within the last two years. All individuals must also have supervisor approval to ensure their volunteer commitment does not interfere with work responsibilities.
All members of the Executive Board are responsible for establishing the calendar of events for the year, organizing professional development opportunities, serving as a steering committee for all KUAN events, attending all KUAN events, maintaining the KUAN website, advising the President in regard to agenda items for meetings, communicating regularly with members through the newsletter and/or listserv, and responding to critical issues as they arise and take action when appropriate. The board will be supported by a liaison(s) from Undergraduate Studies who will assist the board in event coordination, communication efforts, funding needs, and planning. The liaison(s) provides general oversight and reports back to the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies.
Active membership is used to determine eligibility for Executive Board positions and other special incentives recognizing members for their engagement in the network. To be considered an active member in the KUAN, members must regularly attend the quarterly convenings.
